New high-performance Fiat 500 to debut at L.A. Auto Show in Novemeber

A new Fiat 500 model is expected to debut next month in the U.S.Officials say the Italian automaker, which controls Chrysler Group LLC, will debut the new 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth at the L.A. Auto Show.

Fiat currently offers the mini car in four models (excluding limited edition): Pop, Sport, Lounge and Cabrio (convertible). They range in pricing from $15,500 for the Pop to more than $25,500 for other models.

The Abarth is “for track-day enthusiasts and driving-purists who want the ultimate high-performance small car with the pedigree of an exclusive Italian exotic,” according to the officials. It features an all-new 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine, Abarth-tuned suspension and brake systems.

Through September, Fiat had sold about 13,861 of the mini cars in the U.S., well short of its 50,000 goal for the year in the U.S. and Canada.
The L.A. Auto Show runs from Nov. 18-27 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
